Walkathon for Peace 2011 under the auspices of the United Nations theme “Our Year our Voice” was held on July 4 at Benjasiri Park, Bangkok. This was the first time Anglo Singapore International School organized such gathering of youth, teachers, parents and guest to promote peace in our hearts, mind and the community we live in. Our Year 4, Jazlina Sutanto (Jazz), Apichai Maneenacarith (Win) and Palita Likidpongpaisarn (Beau), led the event with the help from our teachers and staff.

Dr. Marco Roncarati, United Nations Social Affairs Officer, Mr. William Tan Wei Yuan, Deputy Chief of Mission from Singapore Embassy in Bangkok, Mr. Chanwit Tubsuphan, Director of Private Education in Thailand and Phra Chainarong Sangsanoi, inaugurated the event.

The event was highlighted by the walkathon around the park headed by our guests of honor followed by all participants from different schools symbolizing the youth’s call for a peaceful world.

More amusing performances were shown on stage like the dance production by Sacred Heart youth, a warm up exercise by Anglo youth, Chinese Martial Arts by Dr. Roncarati Dr. Roncarati with Anglo students, Muay Thai from Vijjit Vittaya School, Tae Kwon Do by Anglo Korean students, Marching Band performance by Phrakanong Pittayalai School, and the bamboo dance joined by all schools including Sianamphueng.

Overall, this meaningful communion of the youth is a great success as all participants are able to partake in the promotion of peace and mutual understanding in a positive and enjoyable manner. This is just the beginning of Anglo students’ program of reaching out to the community.

Teens Blast Stigma and Have a Blast Doing It!
6th Annual Erika’s Lighthouse Walkathon.What started as a walk around the Washburne Middle School playground has evolved into a 2-mile, fun and information filled afternoon, including walkers from as far away as Barrington, Downers Grove, Chicago, Lake Forest and Antioch. The New Trier Volunteer Center Junior Board sent a group. There was even a team of Washburne teachers! “We encourage dogs to come walk, too!,” says Ginny Neuckranz, Board President and co-founder with husband Tom.
