question about walking a marathon?

I'm interested in walking a marathon. It is open to both runners and walkers. My question is, are the walkers timed? Is a "winner" of the walkers awarded? I don't think I could win, nor do I care about it, but I would at least like to be officially timed so I know how fast I complete it in, and it would be nice to know how I compared to the other walkers. Does anyone know?

There's usually not differentiation between runners and walkers. Many runners actually walk portions, and it would be virtually impossible to confirm someone "walking" it actually technically walked the entire way.

It's also not unheard of for some speed walkers to beat a good chunk of the slower runners.

You'd normally be timed in the exact same way the runners are, which is usually but not always via some form of electronic chip or tag attached to your shoe. Yes, you should receive some form of finishing time, and likely split times at various points on the course.

It will likely be virtually impossible for you to be able to tell in all the finishing times how many "walkers" were ahead of you and behind you, but you will be able to compare by overall time/pace. Most who walk the course are competing far more with themselves, if with anything.

For what it's worth, clocks on the course will be based on gun time, not your individual chip time. Since walkers are supposed to start at the back of the race, in some events that can mean 10-20 minutes or more from when the gun goes off until you cross the starting line and truly start, but the gun time is already running. Though you should be able to receive an accurate chip time in final results at the end, if you want to know accurate time while on the course, you should time yourself with your own watch.

Anyway, you would need to look up an individual event's timing methods, and you can likely look up past years' results to see how much detail is presented. Unless it's a marathon that makes a clear distinction in starting times for walkers and runners, you'll likely be timed just as if you were a very slow runner when it comes to timing method, results posting, etc.

If you need more detail, it would help to know the individual race you're looking at.

RSPCA Million Paws Walk + timid dog… = ?

Ok have a charity walk on the 17th of May, not really sure if any one can help much, but thought I would give it a try. I've had my rotti x for a month now, when I got him he was extremely timid… now not to much, unless outside and there is alot of noise. I think he really needs to be around this sort of environment (busy & loud) what are some tips on keeping him calm, I wont be paying too much attention to him (when timid) as I dont want to reinforce this behaviour, but like… instead of petting and talking sweetly, is there any other way to keep him calm or would it be best to just ignore him when he is fearful and just pick up on the good behaviour and praise?
I have been, I take him to a pretty popular dog park that is also near a fairly busy main road, there is a decent amount of noise there and seems to be getting used it rather well, he is also doing much better at walking near busy roads unless a Harley goes by.

I have a rottie x girl with the same problem. Try to be the dominant one while out and about. Don't feed is fearful behaviour but praise him when he's doing well, as you said. Take treats they're always a good thing. Keep him on a leash and make sure you don't feel worried or anxious, if you do he will certainly pick up on your mood. Be firm with him and let him know you are his protector. How old is he?
