Dusty is the rescue dog we adopted. He is very special to us as you can tell. He was terribly neglected and left on our doorstep a horrible infected mess. He couldn’t even walk 5 feet without having to lay down twice. All of hid legs were broken, one shoulder was dislocated his eyes were swolen shut and we had to shave him because of the condition of his fur. He not only is better but 3 years later at 13 he is more mobile then he was when we got him and although he is blind now and mostly …

I am in the very beginning stages of planning a long distance walk for charity (specifically, walking from LA to NYC) and I have a few questions. I’ve never done a charity event like this before. My first question is, what is the difference between being sponsored to cover your expenses while doing the walk, and being sponsored by people or companies pledging to donate to your charity if and when you complete the walk? Also, do pledges usually amount mile by mile or some other such denomination, or is it just a lump sum pledged to be given upon completion of the walk? Also, if you have any other suggestions for things I could try or charities that you think I should walk on behalf of, let me know!
Companies sponsor for two reasons: either they want or need the exposure, or they simply believe in the cause you’re fighting for. Unfortunately, the first time of sponsors is the more common one. Many companies sponsor events because they want something in return: exposure.
Do you mean to say that you just want to plan an event like this, but you still don’t have a charity in mind??? That’s weird.
Anyway, for a walk like this, the easy sponsors to get are those products that runners / walkers usually use, such as sunblock, sports drinks, shoes, maybe even shades and caps. Hmmm… iPod would be a good sponsor for this too.
