How will it actually help the homeless and hungry. I run a charity and always am proud to tell people how we spend their donations and the effectiveness of the program. The coordinator of the charity walk might tell you that they don't want them to participate due to certain illnesses they may have been exposed to, this would put others at risk, including yourself, but I see no harm in asking. For medical charities you probably don't want to ask. My ten year old cousin has Cystic Fibrosis and we walk at the CF walk every year, but he has to wear a mask and isn't allowed near other CF patients. CF patients can carry a rare bacteria that can kill other CF patients. I am sure that this is probably the case in other disease related cases. Most homelessness is due to physical or mental problems or substance abuse.
