All about walkathons

What's the point of a walkathon when people can just donate to the charity?

Why have a random person walk?

Some people will more help if they see you doing something for the money. This will send a signal that you are serious about the issue by walking. When onlookers see the people walking there is a sense of unity and feeling of togetherness and more people will be aware of the cause. Even if they did not donate they will see the people walking and ask whet is the cause. In time they will buy into it and want to participate next time.

Walks raise more awareness for the issue, and they actually raise more money than a standard solicitation letter.
