All dog owners PLEASE ANSWER?!?!?
Would you trust a group of 4 13 year old girls to walk your dog for you, for charity?
i am lauren and my friends and I want to set up a very small dog walking buisness, with the profit going towards charity.
I need to know if you’d trust us because if not i’d think of another plan. also any tips would be very good
thanks xxx
Frankly I’d have to meet the girls and it would depend on the breed(since some are too strong for a 13 year old). But yes I would be willing to allow a 13 year old who has proved themselves to me to walk my dog(especially for charity). My advice to you would be to research, research, and research. Make sure you know what you are getting into BEFORE you start. Also you need an adult to sponsor you and help with the legal obligations and keep track of the finances. There is a TON of stuff involved here other than just picking up the dogs and returning thirty minutes latter with a hopefully completely wore out dog. If you really want to do this though make sure you have learned some basic K-9 first-aid as well since you never can know what might would happen while out on a walk. You’ll also need to have a knowledgeable adult to write up a legal consent form to keep you in the clear if the dogs gets away or hurt. There are probably other things that I’m leaving out right now but the main thing is to not go in alone with just you 4 girls trying to make your way the start up of a business. Consult a trusted Adult with your plans. Maybe contact the local animal groups in your area for help.

No, not at all. Sorry, but it's the truth – i trust very few people with my dog.

gosh, you might as well be asking if you can watch my kids while you at it too on here. i don't know you or your friends so the simple answer is NO.
your best bet would be to start off walking dogs of people that know you. then get THEM to spread your group, company, idea, etc via word of mouth.
i myself don't allow others to handle my dogs. of course that could be because i spent over $2000 for two full bloods.
good luck though.

I'm not a pet owner but i think if you present yourselves well, i will probably trust you since 13 is already pretty mature.
Plus, it's for charity.
It would help if you wore your school uniform or something.
Oh and i take it that you mean 1 person to 1 dog and not 4 people to 1 dog? xPP
Good luck! (:

I think this is a great idea, easiest thing too do is start small, start walking your neighbours, familys dogs etc, and if all goes well ask them for a reference, that way when new customers come along you have some proof that you have been responsible with other peoples dogs, they can read about it. Do some research on exercise requirements for different breeds of dogs aswell, its always better too be prepared, i would trust you with my puggle
Good Luck!!!

As long as you make yourself seem trustworthy and motivated I would say definitely. Try and pick a charity that you would want it to go to and maybe make flyers to make it more official. Post them at local shops even pet stores in the area maybe? You could even consider having them write the check out to the charity if possible after walking their dogs. Just don't make yourselves seem like mischievous teens like most people assume 13 year olds are (even when a lot of them aren't.)

Well i would trust a group of 14 year olds mostly becouse its 4 charity. I would trust you only if i knew you had a clean backround. Also a tip is maybe if you clean up the dogs poop 4 free then you might get more sales. I hoped i helped

Hi
I probaly wouldnt but im sure more people would. The only reason being is you could kidnap them but I am not saying you would, but anyone could.
Some other ideas to help you:
1. If you have got your own dog or some family dogs, you could do a sponsered walk.
2. Sell things you dont want
3. Have people pay to guess the name of a big dog teddy and if they get it right, give it to them there and then (but write it down for proof)
Hope I have helped
And good luck
Extra tips:
1. be kind
2. explain about the charity and why they need the money
Good luck Again

Honestly, no. Although you'd be fine with my dogs, there is no controlling other people and their pets.
You would not get insurance to be a dog walker, so if someones large breed, aggressive dog got off the lead, came running over, attacked one of you or one of the dogs you were walking, you could obviously be hurt, but you would also have the responsibility of the dogs you were walking.
This would be a worst case scenario and I am not trying to put you off anything to raise money for charity, but it is a mig responsibility and you will have people beloved pets in your care. I would not want to put this responsibility on you and your friends, but would be more than happy to do something else.
Could you be paid to do training with peoples dogs. Say, they pay you £10 ($10) to spend an hour training their dogs instead and you take treats and teach it how to do something it cannot already do. You can find loads of different tricks and how to train on different training websites and it would be a much safer way of raising the money without any risk to the owners dog or you girls.
Good luck and I hope you can come up with something successful. Also, well done on wanting to work with dogs, it is one of the most rewarding thing to do.

Me, personally being myself and being 13, wouldn't allow other people taking my dogs for walks.
You never know what the people are doing. They could be abusing your dog, and may not be able to control it.
What happens if one of the dogs gets free on the loose?
What happens if one of the dogs gets into a fight with another dog?
What happens if one of thedogs gets run over?
You have to be responsible and focus on what you're doing.
I would think that a "group" of thirteen year olds is out of the question, since you don't know what their going to do next. They are girls, their going to be more intrested in boys then having a nail broken.
Trust me, I'm thirteen years of age and a owner of two purebred pitbulls. They are adorable, but get exicted on walks and have prey drive. If they see a cat, they will chase it to heavan knows where.
If it was just one person walking my dog – then I'd think about it.
Reason is, because they don't have a group of girls to impress.
Also, don't walk all dogs together. There could be many fights, and even serious injuries. You don't want that.
I've personally never walked more then two dogs at a time, or dogs from other people, but it's hard work and you need to seriously be dedicated to it.
You have to gain peoples trust, it's like giving your child to somebody for 30 minutes around the block, you don't know if their going to get run over or hurt.
Good luck x

No I am sorry I would not. I don't trust many people with my pets. I am very sorry but just being honest.

Hi Lauren
I'd have to watch how you interact with my dog and other dogs before letting you walk my dogs. Do you own your own dog? Do any of the other girls own dogs? If so, how does their dog(s) behave when they walk their own dog? Can you walk their dog?
If you can walk someone elses dog well, it will help convince other people to trust you with their dog. Good luck. Jim

Truthfully, probably not, although the area in which you live would be a consideration (would you be likely to encounter off-leash dogs, etc.).While your idea and goal is wonderful, there are technicalities to consider. Dog walking and dog sitting services most often are insured and bonded… if something bad happened, you could be held liable and since you are not of age, your parents could be sued.
One thing that would be wonderful and fun and safe and I WOULD trust you to do would be to come to my house if I had a baby puppy which needed to be taken out and played with and pottied and given a snack while I was at work. Far too many people who do not have time for them get little puppies anyway, and having someone to come in during the day would really make things easier and more successful. Telling local vets that you did this and places which have puppy class would get you lots of referrals, I bet. If you went to some puppy classes, you could even help with a bit of training when you were letting the puppy out.

Unfortunately for you, sorry, but no. I don't trust anybody with my dog(s). If you are wanting to set up a business, you need to establish a track record, with people who are prepared to give you references. Start with people who know you and know you are reliable. I hate to say it but the thought of 4 13 year old girls walking out with my dogs does not fill me with joy!! Perhaps if I knew you, and your friends, I might feel differently however.
But a lot depends on the dogs concerned (size, weight, temperament etc.) and the area you are operating in.

Well done for trying to raise money for charity..My personal opinion is that I would allow someone to walk my dog if I knew them..Maybe an idea to get some experience walking dogs that you already know..You need to know how dogs react in different situations (if another dog showed aggression how would you deal with it)..that would be the only thing that would worry me..Dogs instinctively know if you are scared and are not comfortable with them and are more lightly to play up..Good Luck whatever you decide..

I don't even trust anyone besides myself or my father to walk my dog, never mind strangers. Actually, that's not true, my brother can walk him with supervision. My dog is generally excellent on walks, but every so often he pulls for something, and apparently most people aren't prepared to "be a tree" while a 150-pound mastiff puppy is putting every ounce of effort into going over to the neighbor to say hi.
However, your idea would probably work well if you approached dog owners you already know. They'd probably be fine with you walking their dog(s).

Yes and No. Not everyone owns a breed of dog that you can walk.. I doubt you'll be able to handle a boxer, pitbull, german shep, rotty, st bernard. If you were my next door neighbour than yeah, id let you take my dogs walking.. thats if they werent the size of you.
People who walk dogs usually have experience with most types of dogs for example people who work at vets, pounds, animal shelters etc and who are big enough to handle the bigger dogs and the demands of bigger stronger dogs. People would probably let you walk their maltese terriers or jack russels or those types of small dogs. Personally i would see you as inexperienced and have no idea what you're getting yourself into.
I would give it a miss and maybe opt for a dog washing day? even a day where people in your community do a walk your dog day where they walk there own dog and you organise the event and just ask for a small donation for your charity. When you think about it, there is way and far too many consiquences that would come with it like most people have mentioned.
