just show the walkers some good conditioning techniques...like building up their calves, strengthening their leg muscles, and maybe jogging a little for better endurence.
References :
The foundation of the training plans should be the same: build up your mileage for the marathon. Walkers, like runners, should also focus on their pace so that they can pace themselves in the race. Many first-time marathon runners use the Jeff Galloway training plan which mixes running with walking breaks...a great plan for those that want to run portions of the race. Below are some tips and ideas for marathon runners...best of luck...sounds like a great club.

since most people can walk further than they can run , I would say the training would be somewhat different, but both groups would still need to put in the miles for the long run/walk. a walker would not need to put in the speed or hill workouts as a runner needs to. but the mileage buildup to race day would be the same
References :
Are you talking about leisure walking during the marathon?

Are you talking about competitive running during the marathon?
References :
well i would think a walker would want to walk outside more, while a runner would run on a treadmill to measure speed or incline
