How to prepare for a mini-marathon?

In early May im going to walk in the mini marathon which is 13 miles. How to i prepare for that between now and then? I have a tredmill here at home so what should i do to work up to the 13 miles?

I've run a marathon and a few other road races in my time and you have quite a bit of preparation to do.

If you haven't been running already for some time, start immediately. Start by running 3 miles every other day. Your body needs to get used to banging and bumping of the grind of running.

Now, try setting up a weekly plan that slowly builds up on distance. Most internet websites can be found with google. You want to run OUTSIDE as much as possible and you want to get used to doing distances greater then 8 miles.

Good luck.
