How can I get sponsors for a charity walk?

Has anybody experience of raising money this way,

The normal way most peolpe do it is to go and ask everyone they know. Send an e-mail or go round everyone in your work and ask them (or classes in school or college). If you are inwork that has outside contractors working for you then ask them – they are likely to give a good donation too.

If you need more then you are going to have to get your friends and family involved. Ask them to ask their friends and colleges and workplaces. You have to convince them that it is a worethwhile cause so they can say the same to their coleges.

If you need mlore and it is a really good cause then try the local media – local radio and newspaper. For the best causes you might even get on TV!

You canset up a page on Justgiving and peolpe can log on and sponsor you (OK they take administration costs but you can get anyone in the world donating on there!) – good if you are trying to get the media coverage of your walkand strangers can log on.

Its all a matter of how far you want to go and how much effort you are going to make.

Oh, some companies have a chartity policy – will match an employees collection pound for pound – worth finding out about

Good luck

-EDIT-
Just had a thought, I was assuming you allready had a cause to raise the money for. If you havent then most will be more than happy for you to raise money. Just choose the one that means something to you and give them a ring, say what you want to do and ask if its OK. Often they will send you fundraising ideas too

Go to your work and ask if the will give you a sponsor as a company, and then go round all the staff.
If you need to raise a lot of money it might be worth raising your profile through the local press, and asking local companies for sponsorship, and wear a t-shirt with the companies logo on it. Good Luck.

Ask at work, ask at your local pub & ask family.
