Is it possible to walk a half marathon (13.1miles) in 3.5hours?

I’m taking part in the run to the beat half marathon and I’m just thinking if I walk a mile every 15 minutes then I would complete the course in 3 hours and 15 minutes! Doesn’t sound too unreasonable does it walking a mile every 15minutes!

Has anyone ever completed a marathon/half marathon what are you’re tips for getting to the finish line?

Yes, it is possible to walk 4 miles an hour, however, unless you have been training it is going to be very difficult for you to walk 13 miles.
I have done some 1/2s, but I never walked.
If you have enough time before the race, start a training program where you can run easy for a mile and then walk for a mile.
If you can’t run then just walk, but try to maintain your 4 mph pace until your body is used to doing that for several miles.
I would suggest you use the run/walk method, and take part in each water stop to drink and stretch a little.

4 miles an hour is a slightly faster than normal walking pace, so yes, entirely possible.

I have run several half- marathons (21k) races and a full marathon race as well They are both very unique distance very different from the shorter race (5k -15k) distances. I usually tell people to get some experience doing the shorter races before then embarking-on the 21k distance. The 21k is twice the 10k distance, plus .6 miles more. How fast can you walk two 10ks back-to-back?

If your fully committed to doing the 21k distance then give yourself 4-6 months to training for it. This amount of time will get you to the finish-line with in a reasonable amount of time.

Many half-marathons have a time limit to how long the race course can stay open. This is because the race director is required to have a event permit for the city that allows then to close or modify road(s) and/or street(s) traffic patters with police support(if needed) This permit expires at a agreed upon time (of day) and will be a factor that you may need to figure-in. They will drive up and ask you to get into the track if you still on the course.

You should be able to find that information on the race website or flier.

    good luck on race day
