Can I take my dog to walk with me in the Marathon?

Next sunday, there's a big marathon in my city. I would like to take my dog with me as she was the one who encouraged me to start walking in the first place. Would the marathon committee or the other people walking mind? I don't want to have to drive back home to put my dog back there again, so I need to know beforehand. Is it common for dogs to walk in marathon? Thx

Not really allowed. Lots of ppl running isnt normally the best place to take a dog, what with the lead and lots of legs to bump into.

Check with the orgainsers, but (apart from blind dogs) i've not seen ppl running with their dogs.

depends on you dog in the first place. is your dog use to this kind of exercise? and do you she'll be able to take the distance of the marathon, I've seen trained dogs do it with their owners so its up to you but dont bring you dog if he/she isnt use to the strainous exercise, isnt too great for the pooch.

Dont you think 26 miles on pavement might be a bit much for a dog?

I doubt they would let you enter with the dog. Too much concern over a dog possibly biting someone else.

If its that important, put her in a baby stroller? Tell the organisers she will have a leash on so she cannot get out of the stroller. And tell them you will have plenty of water for her in the bottom of it… and while your at it, ring the RSPCA or whatever animal welfare group is in your area, and ask if they want you to raise money for them (even just handing out stickers and wearing a sweat shirt)!
Ideas anyway. Otherwise you'd be mad and cruel to take a dog that far all at once, except maybe a Huskie if its really cold, then you might sit in the stroller instead right!
