Mild tendonitis and walking a marathon ???


If you have mild tendonitis in your right ankle, should you even be thinking of walking a marathon. My husband (the walker) says it won't do any harm, but I'd like to hear the opinions of other walkers/runners.

Honestly, I would reconsider doing any extensive walking with any injury.

When you have even a mild injury such as tendonitis, any prolonged activity put you at risk for more serious injury. Many of the serious injuries started with mild injury that just got a whole lot worse.

26.2 miles is not a easy task, even at walking speed. A normal brisk walking is about 3.5 mph, so a whole marathon will require you to walk for over 7-8 hours, which really is a lot of time and stress on your body. A major injury is pretty much put you out of any future races, not mentioning it is very costly for you and troublesome of the organizers of the race.

For your sake and the race organizers, please reconsider before deciding to go for the race. There will be another race at another time, but if I were you, I would not walk the full marathon.
