Should I enter this walking-marathon?

I used to be fit and active but 3 kids later have left me a few kilos heavier and pretty out of shape. But still I like excercise and now I have the time to get back into things (the youngest is now in kindergarten). A friend of mine might take part in a local walking marathon – 10.4 km long, I´m playing with the idea of walking with her. It would be purely for fun, not at all to "do well", rather just "to do it at all". Is it unrealistic to try to train for this in about 6 weeks? Realistically, I could plan in doing an hour of sports/aerobics/walking 3 or 4 times a week – would this be enough?

ps – the time from start to finish (when they "close the finish line) is just under 3 hours – I´ve no idea how long 10km of walking would take – is this enough time for someone like me?

Thanks for any advice!!!! :-)

It's only about 6 miles. You could train for this in six weeks. Good grief, the last two summers I've gone on a 6 mile hike at boy scout camp after dark, through the woods with a hundred kids. I'm 45, out of shape and have five kids. Don't sell yourself short…you can do this!
