Costume ideas? My 6 yr old son has to have a costume with the theme being food. I can't sew ! HELP !?
My son has a walkathon around the school oval where they have to get sponsorship and dress up to a theme – his year is dressing up as food. Any ideas and info on how to make these ideas would be greatly appreciated. Or any links to websites etc. I can not sew so don't suggest sewing! Ahhhhh! Im thinking along the lines of making something he can wear that is made with cardboard etc…I only have 2 weeks. It has been suggested that we don't go to costume shops but anyway I don't want that kind of expense – he is only 6.
Hope this helps!

Why dont you get a red sheet and put a hole in the middle for his head – stuff pillows or cushions all the way round up the sheet and then get some elastic bands and wrap theses round both sides of the sheet so the sheet is secure – put him in some red tights or trousers, paint his face red and shove a green hat on his head – there you go – a tomato – and they're good for you!!!!!!

make a circle of cardboard that he wears around his waist.. like take a BIG box, cut off a side, then cut a hole in the middle for him to fit in, then attach tin-foil, so that he looks kinda round – like from shoulders to butt size.. then he can be a baked potato!

Your son can dress up as a bunch of grapes. Just get him a purple sweatsuit and a package of purple balloons. Inflate the balloons and attach them to his clothes in the shape of grapes using velcro or safety pins. You could even paint his face purple also, if you wanted to.
You could also make a pizza costume using poster board. You need 2 sheets of red, yellow or orange poster board, and yellow, green, red, and brown construction paper OR craft paint.
Cut the posterboard into 2 pizza shapes (triangle). Then on one side of each piece, glue on red circles for pepperoni, brown splotches for sausage, green squares for green peppers, and yellow strips for cheese. You can use pieces of posterboard or construction paper, or you can paint them on. Then when you are done, use some more posterboard to connect the two slices, by cutting two long strips and attaching them to the wide end of the slice and draping them over your son's shoulders. Very cute!

carrot. You have easy options here. either orange fabric that can be hot glued togather or you can use cardboard and also hot glue or tape it togather. then for the top find an old hat and go to the craft store and find leafy things to glue to the hat and your done. The hot glue gun is really your best friend here.

Or green shirt, green shorts, and green ball cap–he's a stalk of celery or a cucumber or a pickle!!! (Write what he is on his shirt.
Or yellow shirt, yellow shorts, yellow ball cap–he's a banana (Write banana on the shirt)

you could make a large roll shape out of cardboard big enough to fit around the child. Make straps to go over the shoulders. leave the top and bottom open. Paint it up as a tin of veggies and put on the logo 'man in a can'

This migth sound silly, but i believe it can be original.
You can use a very big box, and you can turn it into a cereal box, and make three holes in it, for the head, and for the arms- take the bottom out, so the legs will be free. Even your daugther can help you with this outfit.
You will have to look for a big box, with the shape of a cereal box, then you will have to use a real cereal box to get the ideas. Cover the box with white paper, and make the draws over it, with draws, or with color paper pieces, so it looks like a real cereal box.
Hope you enjoy the work and the result. ( once i did something alike, my son's custome was a gift, and the box was a beatifully wrapped gift, he wins the more original custom price ).
