How to Organize a Successful Walkathon?

Alright, so I’m a high school student trying to plan a walkathon to raise money for eating disorder awareness and treatment programs. I understand that it is a huge undertaking and how much work it takes/how much it would cost to run the event.

I’m pretty much all set, but I do need help understanding donations. How exactly would I go about donations/regestration? Do I have them give me their donations before the event begins (pledge money?) or do I wait until the event ends before they donate? Because if they have sponsors pledging a certain amount of money for each mile, then wouldnt I have to wait until after the event to determine how much money each participant owed, or would they have picked out how many miles they’re walking before the event even started?

Take the money whenever it is offered.
Some people are willing to give a flat donation.
Others will want to see the person asking to actually fulfill their part of the bargain.

You may want to approach a community service organization such as the Kiwanis. They have resources, experience and volunteers to help. They may even take on this a one of their community projects. Your efforts may someday get you recognized for a scholarship. This organizations will also have or know of a foundation that may accept these donations for tax purposes to the contributors.
